The time has finally come for one of the best deathcore albums to be released onto vinyl. If you know deathcore, you know Chelsea Grin and the classic that is Desolation of Eden. The opening riff of Recreant alone is enough to get people turning their heads. But even deeper than that, Desolation of Eden has some of the greatest riffs and most memorable tracks in the genre. Featuring fully fleshed out and re-recorded versions of Recreant and other fan favorite track Cheyne Stokes from their self titled debut EP, the album shows exactly what the band wanted to do. The instrumentals were technical, the screams were brutal, the breakdowns were heavy. Everything about this release is noteworthy, even for its time. There’s a reason why people still talk about this album to this day when discussing deathcore.

While the breakdowns and pig squeals are great, there’s also quite a bit of fun to be had here as well. Look at a track like Sonnet of the Wretched where the riffs are just unbelievably bouncy and groovy. Then you have the biggest standout in Elysium. While Wasteland was also an instrumental track, Elysium shows Chelsea Grin go in a beautiful and melodic direction. It you a bit of a reprieve before going right back into the heaviness, which is quite unique for the time. It helps show that it’s more than just your stereotypical deathcore album.
